Answer the following three questions based on your reading of the article assigned for 3/24 by Jennifer Chatman “Leading by Leveraging Culture.”(I attached the file of Jennifer chatman) Choose an organization, or a part of an organization, that you have worked for (preferred) or participated in answering these questions. Choosing to analyze an organization/division with a strong culture (strong positive or strong negative) will make answering the questions a bit easier. You do not have to name the organization but identify what the organization does (a small restaurant, a large manufacturer, a local non-profit, etc)
This specific Assignment must be typed, has a two-page maximum length exclusive of any exhibits, appendices etc. , double-spaced, one-inch margins, 12-point
1. Describe the existing culture there- what is “the system of shared values and norms” (Chatman) that operates in your organization, or part of the organization? Is it a strong or weak culture, and why do you say that? You may find the following short article useful in reviewing culture descriptions. See the six categories in “Step 1”:
2. Apply the three “tools” from the Chatman article to this organization- how is culture managed- and leveraged? – there?
3. Based on what you read in the Chatman article and other readings on organization culture in other classes, describe the culture that you think you would most likely succeed in. Why do you want to work in a culture like that? Note- the answer to this question will also integrate nicely with the final Individual Development Plan in a few weeks.
