You are the detective assigned to investigate the murder of a 17 yr. old high school student named Paul Simon. It is 10 PM on 20 September 2018 that the body is discovered. Simon’s body was found in a car in the 5500 block of Narragansett, in Chicago IL, 60634. Simon’s body was badly beaten by an unknown object. His skull was crushed, and he had a puncture wound in his chest from an unknown object. It appears as if Simon died in the last 24 hours since the time you were assigned to investigate.

What You Know
Evidence located at the homicide scene: Blood belonging to the victim as well as very likely the suspect. A business card belonging to AL BEATUM, a local construction contractor who lives at 5512 N Narragansett, Chicago, Il 60634 covered in blood. Bloody footprints from a size 12 shoe. You also find a receipt from a local shoe store in Beatum’s name. The car is being processed by an evidence technician for fingerprints and DNA evidence.
Cause of Death: Fractured Skull from a blunt object, possibly a hammer, and a punctured heart with some type of sharp-edged instrument.
Suspect: Al Beatum, Male/White, 40 yrs. of age. Owns his own construction business located at 5512 N Narragansett Chicago, IL 60634. He is known around the neighborhood as a strange guy who usually will hire males under the age of 20 to do labor work for his construction crews. His construction specialty is carving designs into woodwork on the facade the buildings he works on. He has a criminal history of aggravated battery from 20 yrs. ago and he spent 2 yrs. in prison for that offense.
Witnesses: There is a very reluctant woman named Abbey Hensive who resides at 5515 W Henderson, Chicago, IL 60634 (Female/White/ 25 yrs. of age). She tells you that she saw Beatum and Simon talking in front of Beatum’s home around 8 PM the day before Simon’s body was discovered.
Informant: Two days after the body was found you receive a phone call from a person who identifies himself as Dewey Cheatum. He tells you that he will help you, but he must remain anonymous. He tells you that he was in BEATUM’s home the night after the body was found. When he went to use the bathroom in BEATUM’s home, he saw a bloody rag in the garbage can that appeared to be covering a hammer. He also saw in the basement of BEATUM’s home a toolbox that contained a wood carving tool that appeared to have some red liquid on it that had dried.
