For this paper, analyze an opinion piece that focuses on a contemporary ethical issue in society from either the New York Times or The Washington Post (the New York Times allows you to have five free articles a month without subscription
In this paper, you are required to include:
-A thesis that incorporates your assessment of the opinion being analyzed.
-The major assertion made by the piece being analyzed, and the possible effects or implications of this assertion if correct.
-The argument (i.e. the premises) that supports the conclusion provided by the author.
– The ethical theories that seem to be operating in the opinion piece, and your explanation about how they apply in this context.
-At least two criticisms or fallacies that you find in the argument, and whether or not this criticism undermines the overall argument.
Note: In the context of this paper, “critique†means that you provide a detailed analysis and assessment of the argument, acknowledging both strengths and weaknesses. It does not mean that you are to tear it apart, which is sometimes how critique is used in popular media.
