personal strategy reflection
Now that we are nearing the end of our practicum course and you have read Clayton Christensen’s “How will you measure your life?â€, this final individual exercise is to help you think about your goals and challenges in your professional career.
Dr. Christensen asks three questions in his brief article: 1) How can I be sure that I’ll be happy in my career? 2) How can I be sure that my relationships with my family and close friends will be an enduring source of happiness? 3) How can I have a life of integrity?
Answer the first question and then answer either question 2 or 3 in your assignment. Full credit will be given papers that thoughtfully bring in readings/speakers from our class. Materials from other coursework is also a positive. Experiences from your internships and prior work experience is also encouraged (where applicable).
Assignment is to be a MAX of two pages, single spaced, 12 pt font.
The opening paragraph should consist your current career goals and some thoughts on strategies you plan to use to reach these goals.
Then develop the paper around the questions and your reasoning for your answers to these questions. Remember we have covered a variety of topics this semester going back to our early readings on problem solving, professional services, conflicts, trust, design thinking, development of professionals and complexity. Additionally, our speakers have hit a pretty wide range of topics (including the recent recording with Mr. Shah at KPMG).
You are free to address how your thinking about your career may have changed in recent years/months; how you could see things developing moving forward and what sorts of “pivots†may be usefully considered as the next chapter of your life develops (beyond GT that is).
Scoring: (20 points)
- Articulated career goals and at least two strategies related to them. (5 points)
- Answer to question ONE about career happiness with supporting information and reflection (7 points)
- Answer to a second question with logical reasoning. (5 points)
- Document has professional tone, clear writing and formatting. (3 points
