A state university situated within a small city is in flux. Its state funding is not keeping pace with its costs. The institution is under pressure to expand its programs to meet local workforce demands and to hold the line on tuition and fees. Imagine that you, as an administrator, have a modest amount of new money to spread across campus for raises, for staffing critical areas and to replace staff and faculty who have departed the campus. Your alternatives are to hire more full-time faculty and permanent staff, offer short-term appointments (up to 3 years) to faculty and staff to meet immediate needs, hire temporary employees to supplement the permanent workforce either while searches are conducted or while you assess needs, increase loads for existing staff, or leave positions vacant. Since you cannot fund all of the needs, provide an analysis of the options available to you as you seek to meet funding needs for a specified audience inclusive of stakeholders of the institution, and the pros and cons of each option from the perspective of the administration, the faculty, the student and the political establishment that provides funding for the college. Develop a related presentation utilizing appropriate technology. Your presentation should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic.
