The task of a leader is to inspire others to achieve great results. Successful leaders should have the ability to identify and apply the appropriate strategy at the right time. Power, influence, advocacy, and authenticity are key components of effective leadership. People are human beings, they respond best when they are treated like human beings, they work best when they have a voice in how the work is done, and they remain loyal and engaged when they feel respected, trusted, well informed, and cared for. There can be no leadership without influence, Once a leader has positive perception and visibility, people listen to what they have to say. Leader can influence the people they lead since people begin to trust and follow the leader because they want to, not just because they have to. Strong leaders lead by mobilizing people around a compelling vision of the future, by inspiring them to follow in the leader’s footsteps (ANA 2012). They show people what is possible and motivate them to make those possibilities real. Leaders energize and focus people in ways that fulfill their dreams, give them a sense of purpose, and leave them with a profound sense of accomplishment when the work is done. Strong leaders lead by modeling ways of thinking or acting and by encouraging new ways of looking at situations, and by so doing they give people the words and the courage to make those new ways their own. Advocacy means using oneâ€
s position to support, protect, or speak out for the rights and interests of another( ANT, 2012). Every leader has the opportunity to make a positive impact on the profession through day-to-day advocacy for both the staff and the organization. They are in a position to notice when things are not quite right and therefore should speak up and get the problems addressed. Strong Leaders contribute to the growth and development of a healthier work environment. Strong leaders must model authentic behaviors, they are genuine, freely expressing feelings and motives, are driven by the desire to make a difference, and are guided by values transcending self-interest (JON, 2019)). They need to be aware of their own perspectives and open to other persons perspectives. An authentic leader sets and role models a high standard of ethical and moral conduct. Effective leadership required to build trust, promote safety, and maintain a healthier work environments that promote excellence in care.
