Post Journal: Week 5 Reflection (Student-Athlete Time Demands)
As your reading indicated, one of the current hot topics in Division I is the relationship between student-athlete time demands and NCAA Bylaw 17. While Bylaw 17 limits countable athletics activities to 20 hours per week, numerous surveys conducted by the NCAA and member conferences indicate this limit hasn’t been properly administered.
In response to this issue, the Pac-12 Conference conducted a study to “to enable student-athletes to take full advantage of the college experience – academically and socially” (Pac-12, 2016). Please review the Pac-12 Conference study from your assigned readings and develop a journal entry this week addressing the data collected, as well as the best practices outlined by the conference for their members.
