We are doing a group project on Ragnars. This is the intro for extra information and ideas.
“I’ve now won back almost all the lands that my forebears held, but not England. And that’s why I’ve now had two knorrs made at Lidum in Vestfold†(Tunstall, 2005, para. 21). Like many Vikings, Ragnar Lothbrok was a skilled seaman and conqueror, who aspired to gain control over England. The name Lothbrok is derived from old Norse as a description of his wardrobe worn while slaying dragons (Mythologian.net., n.d., para. 2). Although fictional, Lothbrok is thought to have existed during the Viking era of the 9th century as a cumulation of several individuals including kings (Vikings-Norman Descendants, 2016, para. 2). Myths depict him as the ruler of both Denmark and Sweden, as well as being infamous for raiding churches in France. Lothbrok was notorious for his strategic tactics that resulted in these successful raids. Eventually, Lothbrok met his demise through King Aella of England as an act of revenge. Lothbrok passed on his acquired skills to his sons, whom furthered his advances by invading England and murdering the king (Mythologian.net., n.d., para. 3-16). Ragnar Lothbrok leaves behind a legacy depicting him as a dauntless warrior in his reign of terror.
