To ensure accuracy and consistency of results, researchers use the scientific Method. That is, project managers use accepted research methods to test and confirm results. This has been an accepted process for hundreds of years.
On page 5 of Chapter 2 of the Cooper and Schindler (2006) book states that the Scientific Method consists of several related principles:
- Direct observation of phenomena.
- Clearly defined variables, methods, and procedures.
- Empirically testable hypotheses.
- The ability to rule out rival hypotheses.
- Statistical, rather than linguistic, justification of conclusions.
- The self-correcting process.
To ensure quality and acceptability of results, the Scientific Method is used to ensure accuracy and reliability. Characteristics of the scientific method include:
- Purpose clearly stated
- Well planned
- Rigorous ethical standards applied.
- Limitations and assumptions discussed.
- Analysis will meet the needs of the decision-maker.
- Results presented fairly.
- Conclusions justified.
- Researcher’s experience reflected. (Cooper and Schindler, 2006).
So how the data is collected and processed are important. To ensure believability of the data and results is critical for innovation projects, given the changes that may occur.
