Intelligence cycle uses a five-step process, planning and direction, collection, processing, analysis and production, and dissemination (CIA, n.d.). It’s important that the intelligence that is consumed is relevant and reliable to achieve the mission. It is very easy to get off track and down a rabbit hole, so to speak. Also, feedback is always necessary to achieve better results, it helps show where the strengths and weaknesses are in the process and allows for possible improvements. This assists to prevent tunnel vision. You don’t want to go down a rabbit hole but you also don’t want to be oblivious to new intelligence.
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) consists of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), National Intelligence Program (NIP), National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), The National Intelligence Coordination Center (NIC-C), and The Intelligence Community (IC) (UMGC, 2020).The ODNI is responsible for providing timely and objective intelligence, setting objectives for collecting, analyzing, producing, and disseminating intelligence, ensuring that intelligence is available and accessible to the greatest possible extent within the IC, developing and executing the annual budget for the NIP, liaison with foreign and international intelligence and security services, providing accurate source intelligence analysis in support of national security needs, and developing peraonnel policies and programs that facilitate joint operations and community management functions (UMGC, 2020). With all these entities working together to achieve the same mission, it’s important for them to receive clear guidance. The are a many agencies working together but I feel that it is necessary to get the overall picture and to be able to achieve the mission.
