The Lab for Ecology (LFE) is being established as a joint initiative between the centers of Architecture and Ecology sciences to unite researchers across multiple fields in the development of transformative systems for the built environment. LFE purposefully prioritizes the requirements of living ecosystems towards the development of innovative methods for buildings and cities that support biodiversity with clean energy, water, and materials. Taking a unique approach, LFE leverages the ongoing explosion of knowledge in life sciences and information technology to fundamentally re-inform the built environment process, which is currently the sector responsible for the largest consumption of toxic, non-renewable resources and greenhouse gas emissions globally. Alongside our partners in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) Industry, LFE seeks to address the complexity of transitioning global construction patterns by uniting deep expertise of current practices with radically new socio-economic and technical approaches. LFE is purposely putting the scientific inquiry of living ecosystems behaviors of the forefront of the research and development of transformative built environment systems. LFE fosters a culture of collaboration given the complexity of our built environment to understand the influence on our health and wellbeing. We are strictly committed to an interdisciplinary approach to deepen our understanding, advance our research and to accelerate the process from ideas to tangible solutions in habitability and energy consumption. Our research focuses on applied technology in the following themes of: • SOLAR • WATER • AIR • MATERIAL • DATA
