Assignment 1 Application Patient Education on Stroke Prevention A stroke is 2023

Assignment 1: Application – Patient Education on Stroke Prevention

A stroke is a serious disorder that impacts patients quickly, requiring immediate intervention and treatment. Due to implications of this disorder, patient education is essential for patient populations at an increased risk of stroke. According to the National Stroke Association, up to 80% of strokes can be prevented in patients (National Stroke Association, 2012). For this reason, it is essential that you provide patients with the education and tools necessary to reduce their risk as well as identify signs and symptoms of strokes. In this Assignment, you have the opportunity to give back to your practicum site by creating media to educate patients about stroke prevention. When designing patient education media such as flyers, posters, and music, it is important to consider strategies that meet the needs of the patient population you treat at your practicum site.

Note: This Assignment is the focus of the week’s Discussion and should be completed and ready to post by Day 4.

To prepare:

  • Review the stroke prevention articles in this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Reflect on common lifestyle, behavioral, and cultural choices of the population that you treat within your practicum setting. Consider stroke prevention methods for this population.
  • Think about ways to educate patients on these prevention methods. Consider educational pieces such as flyers, posters, or other media that might be most effective with your patient population.

To complete:

Design a media piece to educate patients on stroke prevention. You may create a flyer, poster, or any other media that is suitable for your patient population.

This Assignment is due. Prior to your final submission, be sure to use the feedback your colleagues provide in the Discussion to further refine your stroke prevention media.

Discussion: Stroke Prevention Media

Note: You will complete this week’s Discussion after you complete Assignment 1 of this week

In this Discussion, you provide and receive feedback on the stroke prevention media created in this week’s Assignment. This exchange between you and your colleagues is an opportunity to practice your interprofessional collaboration skills, which are an essential rudiment of nursing practice. In clinical settings, you must be able to articulately express your thoughts and communicate with colleagues. This Discussion is designed to help you improve this skill, as well as encourage you to listen to your colleagues and acknowledge that all views are valid and worthy of consideration. As you review the stroke prevention media piece created by your colleagues, keep the best interests of the specific patient population in mind. Use the feedback you receive to refine your own stroke prevention media prior to submitting the final Assignment in Week 11.

Post: A description of the stroke prevention media piece that you created. Include the details of your educational media, and if possible, a copy of the actual media piece. Explain why you selected the particular type of media and how and why it is suitable for your patient population.

Re:Topic 5 DQ 1

All businesses, including healthcare organizations, need to transform and evolve in order to thrive. Whether it is the development of a strategic plan or a process improvement study, forward-thinking organizations are defining an action plan to respond to their environment in a positive manner, which is designed to accomplish their goals (Edens, 2005). Managers influence healthcare innovation implementation by diffusing information, synthesizing information, mediating between strategy and day-to-day activities, and selling innovation implementation. Managers and leaders have the potential to bridge informational gaps that might otherwise impede innovation implementation. Variation in healthcare quality may be related to poor communication of key strategic and clinical information across practice sites and units. By bridging informational gaps, managers and nurse leaders may help to manage the demands associated with innovation implementation, align incentives, transcend professional barriers, and identify priorities to promote innovation implementation (Birken, Lee, & Weiner, 2012). A nurse manager and leader should share the same beliefs and values as the organization. They should encourage employee engagement with open and honest communication. Staff engagement is key is successfully achieving and sustaining positive organizational outcomes.

Re:Topic 5 DQ 1

“Workplace reengineering, reorganization, and redesign are responses to internal and external factors exerting influences on the organization in this dynamic healthcare environment” (Edens, 2005, para. 1). Of the three, reengineering is the most aggressive process. Reengineering is defined as “the fundamental rethinking and radical redesign of process to achieve dramatic improvements in critical, contemporary measures of performance, such as cost, quality, service, and speed” (Edens, 2005, para. 1).  Reengineering is about making a whole new blue print of a process (Edens, 2005).

All businesses including the healthcare systems, have the potential to become stagnant, becoming stagnant is not good for business, and companies cannot survive that way. There are many factors that constantly affect the healthcare business, therefore it is up to the healthcare institution to find new ways to manage the incoming internal and external forces that influence them and create new and innovative ways to deal with them (Edens, 2005). Some of the factors that influence may include “changes in reimbursement, shortage or excess of labor, changes in the political landscape, and the economy” (Edens, 2005, para. 2).

Reengineering involves change, and within an organization leading change requires clearly stating the vision and direction, along with involvement of all involved in this change, and also to provide motivation in order to carry out the new process (Edens, 2005). The knowledge of change theory is a way in which leaders can effectively inform their staff of changes in a positive and timely manner (Edens, 2005). Educating employees is a primary goal of a manager, so they are informed and are aware of what to expect when the changes happen. Change happening within an organization can be stressful on the individuals employed by the institution, by involving these individuals in the process of change can help alleviate some of the stress (Edens, 2005).

Leaders are the “change agents”, when a planned change is to be implemented, it is up to the leader or “change agent” to clearly present the change and along with the need for it and the benefits this change will provide, to their employees (Huber, 2014).  By informing and involving staff about change that is happening can make for a more positive response to it.

2023 Nursing Discussion: Nonadherence to Lifestyle Changes During Pregnancy

Discussion Nonadherence to Lifestyle Changes During Pregnancy After identifying potential health risks for pregnant patients providers often recommend behavior 2023

Discussion: Nonadherence to Lifestyle Changes During Pregnancy

After identifying potential health risks for pregnant patients, providers often recommend behavior changes in lifestyle choices such as drug use, alcohol consumption, dietary habits, and environmental exposures. Even with provider recommendations and patient education programs, some patients still struggle to adhere to recommended lifestyle changes during pregnancy, posing health risks for both the mother and child. In your role as the provider, you must be able to recognize signs of nonadherence to recommended lifestyle changes because not all patients will be forthcoming with the struggles they may be experiencing. Management plans are only successful if patients’ individual needs are recognized and met, so provider-patient collaboration is essential for mitigating nonadherence issues. For this Discussion, consider implications of nonadherence to recommended lifestyle changes and potential management strategies for pregnant patients.

To prepare:

Review the “During Pregnancy” article in this week’s Learning Resources.

Think about the health promotion topic that you selected for the Week 8 Discussion (i.e., smoking, drinking, taking drugs, eating habits, and caring for pets).

With the topic you selected in mind, consider early signs and symptoms that might indicate a patient’s nonadherence to recommended lifestyle changes during pregnancy. Think about the impact of nonadherence on the fetus and the patient.

Reflect on treatment and management strategies for patients presenting with signs and symptoms of nonadherence to recommended lifestyle changes.

By Day 3

Post an explanation of signs and symptoms that might indicate a pregnant patient’s nonadherence to recommended lifestyle changes related to the topic you selected. Explain the impact of nonadherence to these lifestyle recommendations on the fetus and the patient. Then, explain treatment and management strategies for patients presenting with signs and symptoms resulting from their nonadherence.
