the Biblical story of Noah and the flood discussion

Last week you read an excerpt from the Epic of Gilgamesh that described a major flood brought by the gods to destroy humanity because they regretted their creation. This week you are reading about the ancient Hebrews and most of you are probably familiar with the flood story in the Torah (also know as the Hebrew Bible or Old Testament). Please read the account in the Old Testament and the review of the book by the scholar, Irving Finkel. Then answer the questions I pose in a robust paragraph for each question 5 sentences is a safe barometer. hi
- What similarities do you see in the story of Gilgamesh from last week and from the passage in Genesis that I asked you to read? Do you think the “morals” of the story are similar? What do both stories suggest about the relationship between those societies and their G/god(s)?
- What is Finkel’s argument about the connection between the Babylonian and the Noah flood stories? What do you think?
