Earlier you had sitting before you a new client, Evette. Read through your notes from the initial session and determine the advantages and disadvantages of the seven schools of thought you espouse as an eclectic therapist. After weighing all options, as is your custom, determine which one would benefit Evette the most.
Notes:
Evette looked terrible. She said she had spent three relatively sleepless nights and had eaten little, and it showed. She said she couldn’t sleep because she felt tormented by feelings of shame, guilt, and loss. She thought it had nothing to do with her family. She had been “happily married” for 15 years. All her family members were healthy. Her family was financially stable and appeared to have a strong network of support in the community. Nothing was really wrong with them. Ah yes, her kids and her husband were not home much. He worked overtime a lot. The children were always running to soccer practices or games and other commitments with school and jobs. That is the way it is supposed to be. Evette thought that her “blues” had more to do with her brother. She had not been able to release very strong feelings of self-recrimination since her brother died. They had had a serious fight the night before his fatal car accident., and she had never had a opportunity to apologize. The last few months have been a nightmare because of the impact her unrelenting agonizing was having on herself and her family.
