Week 2 Discussion: Teleological and Deontological Systems

The discussion assignment provides a forum for discussing relevant topics for this week on the basis of the course competencies covered. For this assignment, make sure you post your initial response to the Discussion Area by the due date assigned.

University Online Library. As in all assignments, cite your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format.

Start reviewing and responding to the postings of your classmates as early in the week as possible. Respond to at least two of your classmates initial postings. Now that you have reviewed the components of the major ethical systems, you can begin applying these concepts to your chosen field.

1. Discuss the differences between teleological systems and deontological systems. Specifically, consider the relationship between ones intent and the outcome of his or her actions. Which is more appropriate in the criminal justice field?
2. Explain why it is particularly important for criminal justice professionals to study ethics.
3. How should managers and leaders in criminal justice occupations deal with the conflict between the ethical systems of employees and the duties of the job?
