According to Ramirez, et al (2012) the concept of quality is viewed as subjective, with the QI in healthcare focusing on the improvement of patient outcomes. The primary aspect of these remains in defining the outcomes that needs to be improved and establish the manner in which the outcomes can be measured. Following this, a plan should be developed for the implementation and intervention of the processes through the collection of data before and after the process. Unlike EBP and research, CQI typically requires limited literature reviews and rigorous appraisals, an aspect that involves the nurses in CQI projects. An instance of this is evident in the implementation of processes aimed at the removal or urinary catheters within a given time frame, the development of processes aimed at improving wound-care documentation, and the improvement of processes aimed at promoting patient education for specific chronic ailment.
