RE: Discussion – Week 3
Sarwar (2016) studied the influence of parenting styles and the outcomes of those parenting styles. In this qualitative study, Sarwar (2016) studied parents and the outcomes of children, as related to the type of parenting style. This limited study asked two mothers of delinquents how they raised their child. These questions included questions about forms of discipline, education, emotional nurturing as well as family history of family mental illness and social demographics. Sarwar (2016) asked in the qualitative question of “What are long term effects of parenting styles?”. The author listed that the limited participation limits the outcomes and future research should expand on participation numbers. The results indicated that authoritarian parenting leads to rebellion, and problematic behavior exercised by the child in response to the control of the parents. The results also say that authoritative parenting is likely to lead to positive outcomes in children, and permissive parenting leads to a lack of parenting which leads the child to the exploration of behaviors that. can result in risky or criminal behavior.
Because this research involves interviewing to describe an event that is happening, the base model of the research is qualitative (Patton, 2015). A qualitative study is set to explain events that happen with the study of qualities. Normal qualitative research describes things that are happening, or at best, explain the event to further change the event from happening.
Based on the qualitative R8360 description, this research does follow through with the qualities of a proper qualitative study. There are alignment and a depiction of saturation (or, lack thereof) in the case. The qualitative question does ask to describe an event, which is also a qualification of a proper research question (Patton, 2015).
