“In James Osborne’s article, “Counter-monumentality and Vulnerability of Memory”, the author says that monuments can be territorial markers, expressions of power, examples of local cultural practices, and memories (165). Counter- monumentality usually is a result of a monument that is inappropriate due to glorification of subject or context. The article gives the Lee-Jackson statue as an example of this.
