Intellectual Property & Copyright Issues Discussion Response Help

Intellectual property is defined as “a blanket term for creations of the mind such as literature, inventions, designs, brand names, and product logos” (Simonson et al., 2015 p. 258). The readings assigned for this week was very interesting for me and made me think about how I use materials or resources. As a new teacher I did not know there were so many rules under intellectual property and looking back I noticed I have broken some of these rules/laws. I can’t say how many times I have been given resources from other educators or have given myself without checking if it was okay to reproduce or give to another educator. I’ve always thought if I had paid for the resource or it says free it is fine, but that is not the case at all. It is honestly so easy to fall victim to this and it should be apart of the teacher training to train educators about copyright laws. There are so many resources that come by us that we are ignorant about the laws when it comes to reproduction. With the challenge with intellectual property, the use of OER’s does come in mind. Even though OER’s has its challenges it is still a resource educators can use freely without worrying much about copyright issues. With OER’s educator has access to material that may be more updated than what is provided for their classrooms (Kimmons, 2015). I know educators who do get resources outside of what is given because the material is outdated or just not accurate. Overall the chapters assigned this week helped me to understand more about copyright laws and to be careful with the materials that I am using.

On the basis of the readings and your research, create a 3- to 4-page paper addressing the following: •Discuss a draft policy or plan for review. What problem does it address, and what solutions does it propose? •Identify the possible stakeholders’ interests and concerns regarding the draft andproposed solutions in particular. •Identify the risks associated with the proposed policy. •On the basis of your analysis of the second and third points above, suggest modifications to the proposal to enhance its chances for adoption. •Describe the goals of the involved parties in preparing the draft. What influence efforts (if any) do you see represented in the draft? What additional influence efforts might you recommend to convince decision makers to consider the proposed changes and, ultimately, adopt them? •Identify the actions and resources required for implementing the proposal once adopted. •Describe the kind of resistance that might be encountered during the implementation of the policy. What are some steps that leaders of policy advocacy efforts can take to overcome it?
