You will write a 2-4 page, typed literary analysis of a major work we have read this year. This essay will include textual support from your major work (also known as the primary source), ONE Literary criticism, and TWO sources from a connected research topic. The object of the assignment is to analyze an element or elements of the work and use the secondary source to support your own argument regarding the author’s purpose for using those elements. Finally, your analysis should then be connected to a research topic such as a current event. Successful mastery involves the synthesis of your ideas with your sources, and synthesis of the literary analysis with the outside topic.

    MLA formatting guidelines are followed: page format, parenthetical/in-text citations, and works cited page

    Minimum page requirement met (four, + works cited page)
    Five or more reliable sources were used and cited. One source must be Frankenstein (4-5 direct quotes from novel minimum). 4 outside sources. Unreliable and user-created sources like Wikipedia, About.com, and free essay and notes sites, etc. were NOT used.

Scenario:

Juanita Brown is a 48-year-old African American single mother who live in a rural community with three children, a 13-year-old daughter, an 18-year-old son, and a 9 year-old step-daughter, and her 72-year-old mother who has been living with diabetes, hypertension, and is a breast cancer survivor who is unable to walk and function independently. Her 69-year-old father died of a heart attack 5 years ago.

Mrs. Brown has been a widow for the past two years. She has no other siblings. She has no marketable skills and has not been able to find a job within her community. She receives aid from the government through social security and does not have any health insurance for her, the three children, and for her mother.She informs you, the community health nurse, that she feels depressed and does not want to live anymore.
