Final Paper Proposal and Annotated Bibliography
For this week’s assignment, you will submit a proposal for your Final Paper that is due in Week Five. To prepare for the paper, complete the following and submit it to your instructor for feedback:
- Topic: Select one topic from the list provided in the Final Paper instructions in Week Five and describe it briefly. Your one-paragraph description should be the first paragraph of your paper, before you list your sources and provide their annotations.
- Select one of the following topics:
- New technologies (e.g., voice recognition software; natural language processing by computers)
- Criminal justice and intelligence
- Anthropology and cultural studies
- Pedagogy and learning
- Speech therapy
- Another field of your choosing (i.e., international business, translation, etc.) with the advanced approval by your instructor.
- Thesis: Develop your thesis statement. This will become the point or perspective you will argue or prove in the paper. Please see the Ashford Writing Center for information on how to develop a solid thesis. Your thesis statement should be the second paragraph of your paper, before you list your sources and provide their annotations.
- Annotated Bibliography: For this paper you need to do research in peer-reviewed journals or other sources that are considered to have reliable information. In addition to the textbook, you need at least five scholarly sources, including your textbook, two of which must come from the Ashford University Library. For each source, you are responsible for
- summarizing the source and
- describing how it will help you craft your paper.

- Must be three to four double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
- Must include a separate title page with the following:
- Title of assignment
- Student’s name
- Course name and number
- Instructor’s name
- Date submitted
- Must use at least five scholarly sources (at least two of which must come from the Ashford University Library) in addition to the course text to support your claims.
- The Scholarly, Peer Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources table offers additional guidance on appropriate source types. If you have questions about whether a specific source is appropriate for this assignment, please contact your instructor. Your instructor has the final say about the appropriateness of a specific source for a particular assignment.
- Must document all sources in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
- Must include a separate references page that is formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
