Humanities

The story being used is Lust by Susan Minot (Attached)

Please refer to the grading rubric attached.

Detailed instructions that need to be followed are attached… a quick run down is listed below. The attached document also explains what fan fiction is. (sample paper attached as well)

PART ONE: (ONE SCENE MINIMUM; NO MORE THAN TWO)

take one substantive scene (use two scenes if they are brief) from one of the short stories we read in this course and rewrite it as fanfic.

PART TWO: (MINIMUM 800 WORDS)

In the analysis section of your essay, your main objective is to analyze how the changes you made in your fanfic transform the original scene(s) and create a new meaning for that passage. Your literary analysis must have a thesis-driven argument that takes a stand on your interpretation. Think about how and why the changes you made to the original story resulted in a reshaping of a key theme from the story.

PART THREE: (MINIMUM 250 WORDS)

at the end of your analysis, please write your answers to the following two questions:

1. What surprised you most about “creating” a text? What did this exercise in creative writing teach you about what is required to write a short story?

2. Describe the challenges you faced in writing a literary analysis of your own creative work. Identify two writing strategies you used to overcome these challenges and explain how and why they proved helpful.
