Psychiatric Nursing: Critical Incident Debriefing
Order Description
Describe how the principles of critical incident debriefing could be applied to the following scenario:
There is a violent incident on a locked psychiatric ward in UK. During the course of the evening there are two separate incidents involving one patient who is deemed to have capacity and is responsible for his actions. Each incident results in multiple staff being injured. At the time of the incident the seclusion room is out of action. Only a soft furnishing room is available; this cannot be locked. Because of this the patient has to be let back onto the ward on both occasions.
The staff involved, the patient involved in the incident and his next of kin and also the patients who witnessed the incident all need to be debriefed.
