Attitudes are formed and maintained in many ways. Social psychologists have studied how people form their attitudes for decades and from many perspectives. Why are researchers so interested in attitude? For one thing, your attitude typically influences your behavior. For example, attitudes about political topics such as war, abortion, civil rights, and so on, influence voting behavior. Advertisers attempt to create attitudes about the products they are trying to sell with the ultimate goal of making money for their clients. Persuasion is an attempt to change an attitude. Political operatives, advertisers, and others thoughtfully create persuasive messages to change attitudes and ultimately behavior.

For this Discussion, you examine messages that you have seen recently and consider how they attempted to be persuasive regarding attitude formation or change.

To prepare:

Read Chapter 7 in your course text, Social Psychology.
Review the website, “Powers of Persuasion: Poster Art From World War II” to see examples of propaganda messages intended to influence attitudes.
Think about a particular persuasive message (i.e., a message that is persuasive to you or tries to be persuasive) you have seen recently in the media. It could be a political message; a public service campaign; a commercial on television, radio, or online; a print ad in a magazine or newspaper; or an op-ed piece. Generally, the message should not be a news story if the news story is an objective report with the intent to inform and not persuade.
By Day 3
Posta a brief description of the ad/campaign/commercial/etc. and a description of its message. Please provide an Internet link to the message itself if that is where you found it. Who does the target audience seem to be? Then, apply what you have learned about attitude formation and attitude change to the message. In other words, analyze how the message uses attitude theory and information about how to form and/or change attitudes (or behaviors) in its messaging. Be specific and provide examples.

Practicum: Planning Learning Objectives

The practicum experience allows you to develop and expand your advanced nursing knowledge and skills at the aggregate, organizational, or policy level. During week 1 you will submit two to three individual learning objectives that you wish to achieve during this practicum experience.  You should prepare a set of measurable learning objectives, using Bloom’s Taxonomy (See attached file). Your practicum objectives should reflect your interest in expanding knowledge. They are not to include activities related to your DNP project. These objectives will be identified during your mentoring course (NURS 8700P, 8700, 8701).  Practice experiences should be designed achieve specific learning objectives related to the DNP Essentials and specialty competencies (AACN, 2006).

Your practicum objectives should include the following:

1) Three learning objectives using Bloom’s Taxonomy.

2) Description of how these objectives will expand your advanced nursing knowledge and skills at the aggregate, orgaiznational, or policy level.

3) Relationship of the learning objectives to the DNP Essentials.

In this Assignment you will provide a critical evaluation of a business process in the scenario provided. The final response for this Assignment will be a 15–17 slide PowerPoint presentation with audio. The audio portion transcript is found in the notes section below each slide. Background: Mohammed Yunus is the founder of the concept of microfinancing. His initial impetus to provide financing to individual small family owned businesses in India and elsewhere inspired a movement that has spread across the world with some controversy as to the real benefits of such financing.   • In addition, you practiced with some of Geert Hofstede’s cultural dimensions in the Learning Activity that you will now use to address any cultural considerations in your evaluation of the business process described.

Scenario: You were recently hired by a nonprofit organization that is headquartered in Montreal, Canada. This organization, Beacon of Hope (BOH), had a mission of providing financing to businesses who wished to start a business in third world countries. Two years ago, they changed their mission to providing microfinancing to individuals in third world countries who want to start up a small business in their own country. The first two countries they focused on were Angola and Ghana. After two years in operation, it has become apparent that a change is necessary. Choose either Angola or Ghana to evaluate the organization’s current process addressing the following concerns:

Here are some of the reported problems:

-Only 225 applications were received from prospects concerning each of the two countries. At the 2-year mark, the expectation       was 1200 applications for each.

-The application processing time is taking 4–6 months. The original goal was 2 months.

-Only 100 applications have been approved for each country, and the average loan is $10,000.

-The most recent report shows that only 15% of the businesses funded are still in operation.

-Accessing the microfinancing funds has proven problematic using in-country banks.

-Accounting for the expenditure of funds by BOH has been difficult to track.

-Loan delinquency is a major concern due to business failure.

Checklist: Evaluate the business change process by researching and addressing the following:

  1. Provide an overall assessment of the existing program and what needs to be changed to be viable.
  2. Analyze the likely reasons that the application processing time for microfinancing is taking 4-6 months.
  3. Identify the stakeholders who should be involved in this change management process and explain BOH’s responsibility towards these stakeholders. HINT: A stakeholder is any person, group, or organization that has a positive or negative impact on the work or anyone who might be affected by the outcome.
  4. Explain how you will evaluate success once your proposed plan is in place.
