Public Health Workforce Hiring Strategies

As you have learned this unit, one of the major factors in the successful operation of any public health organization is whether appropriate people have been hired for the roles. In this assignment, you will develop strategies that will help you in the very important process of identifying the right skill set needed for a job and the process of hiring the person best suited to that job.

Prepare for this assignment by reviewing your Learning Resources on job analysis and description, rules and regulations governing hiring, and good practices for interviewing.

Then imagine that you are hiring a health or program planner for your local or state health department. Analyze the job so that you understand what kinds of skills and background would be needed in order to perform that job well. In a two to three page paper, describe your strategies on how to fill that position, including the following specific elements:

  1. Write a brief job description for this job (feel free to study other job descriptions to give you ideas, but you must engage in original thinking in this job analysis).
  2. Describe where you would advertise or any other strategy you would engage in to recruit someone for this position, briefly explaining your rationale for these choices.
  3. Describe what your approach would be in interviewing this person, and list three specific questions you would ask.
  4. Identify at least one law, rule, or regulation that you would be guided by in your hiring process, and how you would make sure to stay in compliance with this regulation.

Your assignment should be a minimum of two pages in length, not including the title and reference pages. Include four quality references where two of them are from peer-reviewed articles. Use your own words, and include citations and references as needed to avoid plagiarism. All sources used must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations and be cited per APA style.

Writing a bad news letter

Business Finance

Bad News Letter:

In this letter, you will give bad news to a client. Your message should buffer bad news, present valid reasons for the refusal, de-emphasize the bad news, and close positively.

Instructions:

  1. Letters should be written using the writing plan outlined on page 202 of your textbook.
  2. Letters should be ½ to 1 page in length and should adhere to the professional letter formatting guidelines provided on page A7 (block letter format) in the appendix of the textbook.
  3. Information provided in the letter should be accurate, concise, and grammatically correct (1/2 point will be deducted for each error).
  4. Writing will be evaluated according to the standards outlined in the Bad News Letter Rubric (provided below).

Your Task: Write a refusal letter that maintains good relations with your client. Address it to Ms. Gail Anderson, 314 Landry Parkway, Dallas, TX 75087.

As a vice president of a real estate brokerage, you serve many clients, and they sometimes ask your company to contribute to their favorite charities. You recently received a letter from Gail Anderson asking for a substantial contribution to the National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association. On visits to your office, she has told you about its programs to recruit, train, and support volunteers in their work with abused children. She is active in your town as a CASA volunteer, helping neglected children find safe, permanent homes. She told you that children with CASA volunteers are more likely to be adopted and are less likely to reenter the child welfare system. You have a soft spot in your heart for children and especially for those who are mistreated. You sincerely want to support CASA and its good work. But times are tough, and you can’t be as generous as you have been in the past. Ms. Anderson wrote a special letter to you asking you to become a Key contributor, with a pledge of $1,000.

Grantham Technology Innovation Digitalization and Management Discussion

Business Finance

This week’s discussion focus is technology innovation, through the use of examples that we research and share. Before we begin this discussion, please review an example of a company who used strategies to exploit a new era of digitalization and benefited from it, “Lowering the Cost of Ultrasound Equipment through Digitalization.”

This example shows how a company reached a previously untapped market niche by digitalizing a product, which also allows the firm to reduce expenses. Thus, digitalizing can support a firm that is pursuing a simultaneous advantage in differentiation and cost leadership.

Managing Innovation Example

The ultrasound unit is an important diagnostic tool, producing images of organs. The technology is very valuable, but the equipment is bulky, heavy, and expensive, so it is used primarily in dedicated hospital facilities. ATL, a leading ultrasound company, decided to reduce the size of an ultrasound set-up to about the size and weight of a laptop computer. This would be accomplished by replacing many of the machine’s solid circuits with software (in a process called “digitalizing”), reducing size and costs. The researchers reasoned that a portable and inexpensive ultrasound unit would find market opportunities in totally new niches. Smaller size and lower cost would allow the units to be placed on ambulances or into physician’s offices – market niches that were impossible to reach with the technology of the day. The researchers later became part of a project team within ATL, and thereafter became an entirely new company, SonoSite. Late in 1999, SonoSite introduced its first unit, which weighed just 6 pounds and cost about $25,000. SonoSite targeted niches that full-sized ultrasound products could not reach: ambulatory care and foreign markets that could not afford the more expensive equipment. In 2010, the company sold over $275 million of product.

Now it’s your turn, research a company that has managed an innovation and provide the story. Include, The company, the technology, the impact made with the innovation and short history of the industry and need for the innovation.

Along with providing your example, please answer the following question:

  • How are companies coming up with strategies to exploit and benefit from the new era of digitalization?

Please respond to the initial question by day 5 and be sure to post two additional times to peers and/or instructor by day 7. The initial post by day 5 should be a minimum of 150 words. If you use any source outside of your own thoughts, you should reference that source. Include solid grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and spelling.

Grading Criteria Maximum Points
In your initial post, clearly present well-reasoned ideas and concepts.

Week 3 Leadership Skills and Characteristics of Good Leaders Paper

Programming

Regardless of our job titles, we all will be expected to act as leaders and/or instill leadership behaviors into those we work closely with. For this week’s written assignment, consider 4 to 5 skills and/or qualities you demonstrate that make you a good leader. In addition, all of us have room for improvement so also include at least one area you could improve on. Lastly, it is important that we continue to establish new goals and plans for achieving those goals. In the next two years, what will you be doing to keep yourself growing as a leader?

Students will complete this written assignment with a well-written 2-page paper responding to the questions presented above. Support your answers with references to the principles presented in the assigned reading as well as from sources used in your research. Cite sources using APA formatting and proof and edit your paper carefully before submitting.
