Career Perspectives in Public and Global Health?

“The only thing that will redeem mankind is cooperation.” Bertrand Russell, British philosopher (1872–1970)

The public and global health infrastructure relies on the unique talents and training of many professionals to achieve significant improvements in public health. The wide assortment of new and existing public health challenges create both a need and opportunity for individuals interested in pursuing careers in public health. Few public health professionals or organizations function independently. Most collaborate as part of a larger infrastructure that works on a local, state, national, or global level to improve the health of populations.

Whether you are already on a career path or looking for a profession that will allow you to help others, it is beneficial to understand the various roles of public health professionals. Be sure you keep these health professionals in mind as we explore diseases, disasters, and the future of public and global health over the next few weeks.

a report of economic analysis

You have been hired by a struggling think tank that does economic analysis for politicians. Your first task is to review the first draft of a speech that a politician is preparing to give at a press conference. The speech talks about the current state of the economy. Upon reading the draft you realize that the draft contains mistakes with regard to economic statistics and uses economic data in a way that does not provide evidence for some of the conclusions in the speech.

Your task is to write a report that does three things:

1) describes the mistakes and the inappropriate use of economic statistics in the speech

2) proposes what additional or alternative statistics would be better suited to support the conclusions of the speech.

3) provide explanations for your suggestions and your findings so that your think tank does not make these mistakes again.

The report is below:

“The last year has been great for our economy and for our citizens. GDP growth of 4.4% signals an increase in the real output produced by our economy. It is too early to say before more detailed data are released, but we estimate that the biggest contribution to GDP growth came from the increase in private consumption, in particular the increase in construction of new homes in our capital. Overall, we can conclude that the wellbeing of the workers all around the country improved significantly.

The unemployment rate has reached a historic low of 1.4 % which is a clear indication that people who want to be employed are finding jobs and that the number of people working is at an all-time high. However, one must be careful when assessing the low unemployment rate because some people might have two or more jobs, which would artificially bring the unemployment rate down.

In other good news, compared to last year, gas prices have increased by 0.6% only, which means that inflation is also incredibly low. In addition, last year new legislation increased the minimum wage by 20% compared to the last legislation passed 20 years ago. Needless to say, the minimum wage workers of today are much better off than the minimum wage workers of the past given this significant increase. Overall, we can confidently state that economic statistics described above indicate a rapid increase in the living standards of the population.”

NOTE: assume that the actual numbers are not the problem, given that this is a made-up speech. Focus on the definition of concepts and how they relate to the conclusions that the speech makes.

comm observation paper 3 5 pages

Assignment Description

Studying communication and the various theories that apply to human interaction can be

a valuable asset in your personal and professional lives. If used properly you can improve your

relationships, your ability to persuade others, your chances at career advancement, and a host of

other benefits that becoming a better communicator provides. In order for you to gain a deeper

understanding of these concepts, it will be important for you to begin

applying

them. Theory

without application will not allow you to use what you’ve learned and thus, you are less likely to

benefit from it. Therefore, this assignment is designed to give you a hands-on experience with

going out into a natural setting and using some of what you have learned in class.

To aid you in this process you will be required to choose a setting in which others are

communicating with one another. The form of communication you choose to observe depends on

your own preference. You can observe people interacting directly through conversation, playing

sports, working together, etc. or you can observe examples of indirect communication such as

strangers in crowded places, intimate partners spending time with each other without actually

speaking to one another, or someone reacting to something they have witnessed.

You will observe the people interacting in this setting, and provide your analysis

regarding what you thought to be significant about the communication that took place, in the

form of a term paper. To aid you in your writing you will need to choose

three specific course

concepts

or theories

that relates to your observations. Examples include:

Selection

– what forms

of stimuli were present in the situation and how did the communicators respond or negotiate

those stimuli?

Social Roles

– what social roles did you pick up on and what was it about the

interaction that communicated those roles?

Nonverbal Communication

–

Repeating

: did you

notice any particular gestures that the communicators used to reinforce what they were saying

verbally?

Once you have selected the concepts to work with and explained how they functioned in

the situation you observed, you will then need to provide an analysis of what you learned from

this experience. For example: what are your thoughts about what you witnessed? Did it confirm

or disconfirm any of your assumptions about communication? Was there anything that surprised

you? If so, what was it and why did it surprise you?

Since you will be choosing a textbook concept for this assignment,

you will need to provide

a reference page including in-text citations in APA style

.

Your paper will be judged according

to the following criteria:

1. Your ability to support your analysis through the use of relevant examples

2. Your ability to connect classroom learning to your observations

3. The application of appropriate communication concepts and/or terminology from lecture

or the textbook

4. The demonstrated ability to think critically about what you observed (quality of your

writing/insights)

5. Proper grammar, spelling, and overall format

Learning Objectives

This assignment is designed to help you:

1. Apply interpersonal communication concepts to real-world scenarios and personal

observations

2. Organize information and facts into a cohesive, coherent essay

3. Improve your critical thinking and writing skills

Assignment Requirements

Page limit:

3-5 pages, double-spaced, typed, 12-point font, with APA-style references
