Faculty Comments:

I have included some links from the course site for assistance with APA. There are many parts of your SA report that indicate material taken directly from other sources without appropriate citation such as direct verbiage. I believe this to be an issue with APA errors rather than plagiarism. Please rewrite the assessment and highlight your changes to reflect credit to the sources. For instance “In the wake of a global nursing shortage, maldistribution of the health workforce, increasing healthcare costs and expanding workload, it has become imperative to examine the role of nurse managers leadership styles on their staffs outcomes.” This is taken directly from the article.

APA Module.
Academic Honesty & APA Style and Formatting.
APA Style Paper Tutorial [DOCX].
You may want to review your SA report with your coach for guidance as well in understanding the report as I will have to report future concerns as an academic honesty breach.

Please use headers per APA guidelines to assist with flow of the assessment.

Question Description

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING WORD LIMIT REQUIREMENTS:

Please note that each and every assignment has its own word limit.

Jennifer Herriot is the Assistant Director of Community Health with 20 year experience with working in the Public Health field in the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District.(Metropolitan Health District 2019) She provides direction and great management to her peers on all organizations including, maternal child health case management (Healthy Start), Oral Health Services, the WIC program, the WIC Lactation Center which supports breastfeeding moms and much more. She is inspiring not only because of her amazing guidance but because she is a woman in a leadership position in a male dominated field.

My local health department has great structure and organization led by Jennifer. A program that the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District provides is the teen pregnancy prevention program. (Metropolitan Health District 2019)It is a program that provides help counseling, and provide options for teens going through pregnancy. It also provides sexual education courses to inform teams on what precautions to take in the future. This is a great service because teen pregnancy has risen over the years and there needs to be programs that help these young girls and boys. Not only offer support but provide guidance to the young parents and options to provide them.

The State of Texas has many different state health programs due to the state being so large. I decided to focus on the program for infectious disease prevention. This a program that is all over the state of Texas and provides information as well as research on how to stop the spread of them.(Texas health and human services, 2019) There are clinics opened with free vaccinations, events held to educate on how to stay healthy. This Public Health service is extremely helpful due to new infections being discovered daily so it is crucial to inform the public on how to prepare.

The similarities between both programs they are both very helpful to the community. Both provide services that not only inform the community but also provide assistance. The difference I would say besides the funding, that there is more into the entire state rather than a specific local program, would be how easy it is to be involved. The process to join your local programs is not only easier but a quicker action. The entire States programs are more structured and organized due to more “important” people involved like the governor etc., meaning more eyes on these programs to be perfect rather than the smaller local programs. Nonetheless as long as you are involved with helping the public with the ongoing health issues you are a part of the change that the world needs.

INTERVIEW ANALYSIS

Based on your interview notes from this week’s discussion activity, analyze the epidemiological data surrounding the health issue that your agency addresses. Compare the epidemiological data with the information provided by the agency director/representative by addressing the following points:

  • How do the epidemiological data and the information provided by the agency director/representative differ?  How are they similar?
  • Based on the epidemiological information collected, what is the true effect that the agency is having on your community?
  • Appraise the various methods that should be employed to help the agency improve its effectiveness.
  • Analyze the 10 Essential Services of Public Health and how they are (or are not) wrapped into the service provided by this agency.

Epidemiological data consists of statistical information on your population obtained through primary sources, which are typically research studies or government survey information (such as those provided by the CDC or health department).  Utilize the Ashford University Library and/or government websites to locate statistics that relate to your organization.  For example, if you interviewed someone from an organization that focused on childhood obesity, you would locate research studies that provided statistical results for your county, region, or state to illustrate what was actually occurring in your area regarding childhood obesity.  Once you have this data, compare it with the information provided by the agency director or representative that you interviewed.  In some cases, you may only be able to find actual state statistics, but your organization may have provided only local data.  This is okay; just make sure you note this in your paper and through critical thinking, infer how this might influence the effectiveness of your organization’s work.

Your paper should be three to four pages in length, excluding the title and reference pages, and formatted according to APA style guidelines as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Visit the Ashford University Library to locate a minimum of two scholarly sources that support your main ideas. Also, use surveillance information that was discussed as part of the epidemiology process.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE/LAW

Part III. LAW

INTRODUCTION: Part III deals with the law and discusses ethical misconduct in the justice system and misconduct as a form of civil disobedience. Henry David Thoreau coined the term “civil disobedience,” when he wrote about his refusal to pay a poll tax that would have supported the United States’ war against Mexico. If government, he wrote, “is of such a nature that it requires you to be the agent of injustice to another, then, I say, break the law.” The U.S. has had a long history of civil disobedience. This week seeks to analyze the ethics behind political and religious motives that lead to breaking the law. This topic has always been popular for debate but recent examples from Kim Davis the county clerk that defied federal court order to issue marriage licenses because of her religious beliefs (Click here for more (Links to an external site.)), to Tim DeChristopher who disrupted a federal auction of oil and gas to protest U.S. policy on climate change (Click here for more (Links to an external site.)) have thrusted this topic into debate again. You will write a (4-7 pages double-spaced) persuasive/argumentative essay. A persuasive/argumentative essay uses reason to show that one idea is more legitimate than another idea. It attempts to persuade a reader to adopt a certain point of view or to take a particular action. This type of essay must present theory, evidence, facts, or examples, in order to defend ones claims. You are required to use data you have gathered from your readings. Outside research is welcomed, but you will be graded (please see grading rubric) on how well you summarize, integrate, and theorize on information we have covered in class thus far.

ESSAY QUESTION: You are a defense attorney in the Wounded Knee trials (readings from Sayer – Ghost Dancing the Law) defending the protestors. Your job is to explain civil disobedience in relation to religion, social contract theory, and indigenous justice. You must define, explain, and give examples of the Divine Command Theory, Social Contract Theory, and Indigenous Justice (Lauderdale – North American Indians and Peace). You must discuss if each of these theories would help OR damage your case defending the civil disobedience of American Indian protestors. Be sure to define and give examples of each ethical theory and compare and contrast the theories to one another. You will be graded on your ability to connect the required readings from class to your argument. Please provide concrete examples to defend your claims. These readings are a little difficult so if you have any questions at all do not hesitate to contact me.

DIRECTIONS: Please submit your Essay (4 to 7 pages double-spaced) as a Word or Pdf document in the Essays section.
