I NEED A POSITIVE COMMENT BASED IN THIS ARGUMENT..BETWEEN 150-200 WORDS

Scientific management theory is one of the oldest management theories that were developed in the 20th century. Scientific management theory attributed to Frederick W. Taylor (Marquis & Huston, 2009). The theory is anchored on understanding workflows and improving labor productivity. Its application is depending on a high level of managerial control over employee work practices. The theory advocates for division of labor and specialization (Tomey, 2009). This theory in health care would give autonomy to the manager to plan health care schedules and manage their execution. Under this theory, the manager decides the training and development plan for the health care professional as opposed to giving them the chance to choose programs they deem appropriate to their career development (Tomey, 2009). This theory fails to appreciate the fact that the management requirements and those of the health care professionals are rarely identical. This leads to a discouraged workforce hence poor service delivery (Huber, 2013).

The theory ensures that scientific procedures are developed for every treatment plan or process and therefore the health professionals have no say or opinion about the routines. The health care given in this theory has to follow the laid down procedure, the long-term effect is the creation of monotony that leads to poor service delivery. The inefficiencies showcased by this theory led to participative decision making in the workplace (Marquis & Huston, 2009). In the health care context, participative decision making include the involvement of all health care professionals and the management in the problem analysis, solution implementation, and the general decision making process.

Information sharing as argued by Marquis and Huston (2009) is one of the most important aspects in achieving participative decision making. The health care professionals feel valued if the management shared the performance, status, plans, and the general health of the company according to Marquis and Huston (2009). Training and development opportunities also help significantly in the motivation of the workforce. The knowledge gained from this pursuit is beneficial to the organization in the long term as observed by Huber (2013. Another example of participative decision making is allowing health care professionals to make decisions on work schedules, budgets, and reward systems.

Although spirituality is a difficult concept to define supporting patients individual spiritual needs may 2023

Although spirituality is a difficult concept to define, supporting patients’ individual spiritual needs may help them to cope with their illnesses. Despite spirituality being an important aspect of patient care, few nurses feel they meet patients’ needs in this area. I feel like many of the nurses I work with are afraid to discuss the patient’s spirituality with them. Maybe it’s because they don’t have a full grasp on their own spirituality. A study of 4,000 nurses identified that meeting patients’ spiritual needs is enormously important and improves overall quality of nursing care. However, only 5% felt they achieved this goal (Funning, 2010). I found this fact interesting: a study of 230 patients from varied ethnic backgrounds with advanced cancer, found 72% felt their spiritual needs were not or only minimally supported by healthcare systems (Balboni et al, 2007). Mosby’s (2005) Dictionary of Complementary and Alternative Medicine defined spirituality as: “An individual’s quest for understanding the true meaning of life and the desire to integrate with the transcendent or sacred. May or may not arise from or lead to community formation or ritual observance.” I think my idea of spiritual care lines up very well with our readings. I especially agree with the statement in our readings (Shelly & Miller, 2013) “nurses intervene to promote health, prevent illness, or assist with activities that contribute to recovery from illness or to achieving a peaceful death.”  We are to provide care for the ENTIRE patient, not just the physical part

Addressing Behavioral Risk Factors It is unreasonable to expect that people will change their behavior easily when 2023

Addressing Behavioral Risk Factors

“It is unreasonable to expect that people will change their behavior easily when so many forces in the social, cultural, and physical environment conspire against such change” (Kovner and Knickman, p. 139).

When seeking to lessen behavioral risk factors in different populations, one of the greatest challenges is addressing the systemic issues within the population that enable the risky behavior to occur in the first place. Consider the health risks of school-age children not being immunized or drug users sharing needles. These risky behaviours led to increases in individual and population health problems. Thus, when planning health prevention programs, it is important to consider how to effectively address risky behaviors at both the individual and the population level.

The Discussion focuses on the use of the Population-Based Intervention Model outlined in the course text Health Care Delivery in the United States, as well as how this model can be applied to strengthen advocacy programs.

To prepare:

Selected Behavioural risk factor:

Alcohol Misuse/Risky Drinking: Binge Drinking

Proportions of adults who exceed guidelines for low risk drinking baseline 72% women, 74% men, 2020 goals 50%.

Adults 18 years and older baseline 16.6%, 2020 Goals 6%.

Adolescents (12 to 17 years) baseline 7.7%, 2020 Goals 2%.

Deaths from Alcohol-Related Auto Crashes baseline 5.9%, 2020 Goals 4%.

Assignment:

Research how this risk factor is affecting your community or state (Texas). The Discussion focuses on the use of the Population-Based Intervention Model outlined, as well as how this model can be applied to strengthen advocacy programs.

With your selected risk factor in mind, review the information on the Population-Based Intervention Mode. In particular, focus on the concept of downstream, midstream, and upstream interventions. Consider at least one intervention that could be put into place at each stage.

Comprehensive Approach to changing provider Practice.

Paradigm for Changing Provider Practice.

Upstream: National/State/Local performance mandates, reimbursement and pay for performance policies.

Midstream: Health plan level; organizational mandates/incentives, clinical information systems, technical assistance, CQI.

DownStream: Individual provider level: CME strategies

Between Upstream and Midstream: Managed care regulatory standards, performance measurement/accreditation (e.g., NCQA/HEDIS)

Between Midstream and Down Stream: Office-Level reminder systems, detailing local opinion leaders.

Post a description of the behavioral risk factor you selected and how this factor is impacting your community or state. Using the Population-Based Intervention Model, suggest at least one intervention that could be put into place at each stage (downstream, midstream, and upstream) to ensure that a health prevention program addressing the behavioral risk factor would have a greater chance at succeeding. Justify why each intervention you identified would be effective.
