Week 5 Assignment

This week we cover Chapter 4 “Retrieving Data for Computation, Analysis, and Reference” where we will use the “Sales: Creating Product Order Forms for Equipment Purchases as the learning example. We will cover Levels 1 and 2 only.

Use the Chapter # 4 – Videos presentation to see the videos if you prefer.

NOTE: Create a Word Document 5-Essay-Week5-YourName for all the essay parts.

The Assignment has three parts:

Part A:

Read the Chapter Introduction and Case Scenario on page 212. Read this page very carefully. It is important that you clearly understand what the Chapter material is all about – otherwise you will just be putting numbers in cells. You might also want to watch the youtube.com video for this chapter.

Part B:

1. Study (LEARN) the material covered in Level 1: Accounting: Establishing a Credit Approval Process for Accounts Receivable on pages 214 to 240. The CH04 Level 1 Figures.xlsx file in Lectures (Student Data Files Chapter 4) replicates all the Figures in this section so you can easily follow along with the textbook discussions.

2. PRACTICE what you learned in the first part by completing the Steps to Success: Level 1 exercise starting on page 241. The starting workbook: PO527.xlsx needs to be downloaded from Lectures – (Student Data Files Chapter 4)

The result file Name should be 5-1-PO527 Credit Analysis.xlsx

Part C:

1. Study (LEARN) the material covered in Level 2: Analyzing Data Using IF Functions and Nested Functions on pages 177 to 194. The CH04 Level 2 Figures.xlsx file in Lectures (Student Data Files Chapter Three) replicates all of the Figures in this section so you can easily follow along with the textbook discussions.

2. PRACTICE what you learned in the first part by completing the Steps to Success: Level 2 exercise starting on page 256. The starting workbook: Unpaid.xlsx needs to be downloaded from Lectures – (Student Data Files Chapter 4).

The result file Name should be 5-3-Unpaid Invoice Penalties.xlsx

Think about how your personal values correlate with the principles of servant leadership. How can you draw on values and servant leadership principles to better establish your followership to better serve those you lead professionally and personally?

Discussion 4

Suppose you go to work for an organization that you discover does not align with your personal values. You are in a leadership role and you are not in a position to leave the job. How do you ethically represent the company without compromising your own beliefs? What is the deal breaker for you? How does ethically representing the company demonstrate your ability to be a servant leader?
