Read Part 2 of Who Speaks for Justice: “Developing the genius within the young”, pgs. 39-76
As you read, make notes about your reactions, assumptions, implications, arguments, questions (see prompts in instructions) The idea of personal responses are to engage in thoughtful internal dialogue about the idea of global issues and education. You should attempt, in your understanding of the readings to get “underneath” what you read in order to understand the social, political, and cultural underpinnings of the issues. Reading critically involves more than understanding the words or liking or disliking the texts; critical reading requires reflection.
Some prompts are helpful for how you should approach these assignments. As you consider your reflections, think about these questions: (a) what are the texts’ assumptions about the phenomena being discussed? (b) What are the implications of the assumptions and/or the arguments? (c) What is at stake in the texts arguments for the authors and for you? (d) Who (or what) are the authors arguing for or against? (e) How do the authors construct and articulate their arguments? (f) How do the texts “fit” (or not fit) in relation to your own thought and practice? (g) What questions did you find yourself asking after doing the reading? Please do not simply summarize the readings.
Write your critical response connecting the content from the text with your responses to the prompts.
Your response should be written in a narrative form that is evident of engaging with the content and reflection.
TWO ASSIGNMENT
What does it mean to have a “voice,” to be empowered? What does that look like? Feel like? Sound like? What is our role in helping others find their voice?
Read the article, this assignment will be composed of at least 3 questions or comments. What I’m looking for here would be to just transcribe the kinds of things you might write in the margins as notes to yourself as you’re working through the reading. These do not need to be extensively explained, but they should be pursued thoughtfully.
Need 3 references having to do with the attached prospectus
Subject this week ” the cost of employee turnover at the front desk night audit shift in the Hotel industry”
Discussion 2: Annotated Bibliography
In each week of this course, you will research and select three (3) peer-reviewed, scholarly sources to develop an annotated bibliography that you can use in your Doctoral Study. You will need to take the three sources and synthesize the references into a single narrative annotated bibliography that compares/contrasts or supports your study. For example, you may develop three references that will fit into the Nature of the Study (or any other component) and then the synthesized version will help you in developing your Prospectus/Proposal. Please see this week’s Learning Resources for the Sample Annotated Bibliography Template, which you should use to complete your annotated bibliography.
By Day 3
Post your synthesized annotated bibliography narrative that includes an explanation of how these references relate to onrospectus or more components of your Doctoral Study and incorporates specific references to the Doctoral Study Rubric.
Refer to the Week 1 Discussion 2 Rubric for specific grading elements and criteria. Your Instructor will use this rubric to assess your work.

What have you learned in the epigenetics video and how will this information change your lifestyle? Be specific about the changes you will make.
Research and locate one article on epigenetics from a reputable academic source (journal articles are reputable sources, as are some government publications based on research such as the National Institute of Health; Wikipedia is NOT a reputable source) through the College Library (log in with your MDC ID number. Your pin number is the last four digits of your MDC ID unless you have changed it). Sample of reputable sources:
Epigenetics: Read the “Genetics and an Epigenetic Understanding” section. Source: Berger, K.S. (2010) Invitation to the Life Span, Worth Publishers, pp.12-13. See next document located below in blackboard.
2- Read the epigenetics article you find. Begin your paper by defining epigenetics and continue your paper with a discussion of the epigenetics article. Be sure to paraphrase (put things in your own words) and be sure to cite the author(s) of the article you find using APA style. The paper must have at least one reference to a scholarly source cited in the body of the essay and added to the reference list at the end.
3 – Watch the epigenetics videos listed below and discuss your reaction to the video. These video are located in the Film-on-Demand Online Repository. Go to the Blackboard TOOLS & RESOURCES Menu and link to the Film-on-Demand. You have to log in to the Library website, and connect to the Film-on-Demand database. See the file with the screen shots for “log-in” in the assignment folder located in the LESSONS tab. Once in the Film-on-Demand website, search for each video by using the “Item Number”: a. Video title: Epigenetics: The Hidden Life of Our Genes
Item Number: 43376
b. Video title: Epigenetics: How food upsets our genes Item Number: 40603
