Tips Tips for preparing the case
• Read and examine the case thoroughly (take notes, highlight relevant facts, underline key problems)
• Focus your analysis (identify 2-5 key problems and think about why they exist, how they impact the organization, and who is responsible for them)
• Uncover possible solutions (review course readings, discussions, outside research, your experience)
• Select the best solution (consider strong supporting evidence, pros and cons, whether the solution is realistic)
Tips for drafting the case
• Introduction – identify key problems and issues; formulate and include a thesis statement (summarize the outcome of your analysis in 1-2 sentences)
• Background – include background information, relevant facts, and important issues (demonstrate that you have researched the problems in the case study)
• Alternatives – outline possible alternatives; explain why alternatives were rejected; discuss constraints and reasons
• Proposed solution – provide one specific and realistic solution; explain why this solution was chosen; support this solution with evidence and concepts from class (readings, discussions, lectures), outside research, and personal experience
• Recommendations – determine and discuss specific strategies for accomplishing the proposed solution; if applicable, recommend further action to resolve some of the issues; explain what should be done and who should do it
